DADE CITY - A gay film festival that is planned to start Friday and run through the weekend is generating opposition from a Tampa-based family group.
The event, billed as a gay international film festival, will be at the Sawmill Campground on U.S. 98. The gay and lesbian camp sits on 100 acres about seven miles north of Dade City.
Promotional materials for the event promise appearances from "supermodel" and singer RuPaul and gay adult film star Matthew Rush.
"This event will include nonstop day and night time entertainment that goes literally 24 hours a day," according to a release. Parts of the festivities are also billed as "clothing optional."
In an e-mail, David Caton, executive director of the Florida Family Association, called the event a "Sodom & Gomorrah party."
